Quick Unit Conversions for IGCSE

To Convert Multiply By Result
cm → m 0.01 meter (m)
g → kg 0.001 kilogram (kg)
kJ → J 1000 joule (J)
cm² → m² 0.0001 square meter (m²)
°C → K +273.15 kelvin (K)
dm³ → m³ 0.001 cubic meter (m³)
cm³ → dm³ 0.001 cubic decimeter (dm³)
Remember: Always check your units before you start a calculation!

Common Mistakes in IGCSE Science & Maths Exams

  • Wrong unit conversion: Always convert all units to SI before using formulas (e.g., cm → m, g → kg).
  • Forgetting to square/cube units: For area (m²), volume (m³), check your conversion powers.
  • Sign errors: In velocity/acceleration, check positive/negative directions!
  • Omitting constants: Like ‘g = 9.8 m/s²’ in Physics, ‘R’ in Chemistry gas law questions.
  • Mistaking significant figures: Give answers to the correct number of significant figures as per question!
  • Not labelling diagrams/calculations: Write units in every answer; draw neat diagrams where needed.
  • Algebraic rearrangement errors: Check your transposition and factorisation in maths/algebra questions.
  • Calculator errors: Double-check your brackets, order of operations (BODMAS), and exponent entries.
Tip: After every answer, quickly check units, calculation and significant figures!

Revision & Scoring Tips
