Mathematics Olympiad: Stages & Process
Maths Olympiad in India is a five-stage journey leading to the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO). Here’s how it works:
- IOQM: Indian Olympiad Qualifier in Mathematics – OMR-based, 30 questions, algebra, geometry, combinatorics.
- RMO: Regional Mathematical Olympiad – 6 complex proof-based problems, advanced problem-solving.
- INMO: Indian National Mathematical Olympiad – Top RMO performers, proof-writing exam, 4.5 hours.
- IMOTC: International Maths Olympiad Training Camp – Intensive training, only top 65 from INMO.
- IMO: International Mathematical Olympiad – The world’s most prestigious maths contest for high schoolers.
Science Olympiad: Subjects & Stages
Science Olympiads identify talented students for international contests in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Astronomy, and Junior Science. The process is similar to maths:
- Stage 1: NSE (National Standard Exam – NSEP, NSEC, NSEB, NSEA, NSEJS) – objective-based screening
- Stage 2: INO (Indian National Olympiad) – descriptive problems, advanced concepts
- Stage 3: OCSC (Orientation-cum-Selection Camp) – intensive training at HBCSE
- Stage 4: Pre-Departure Camp – final prep for international level
- Stage 5: International Olympiads – India represents at IPhO, IChO, IBO, IAO, IJSO, etc.
